Friends and Trusses

The Haiti construction team had another hard day of work. Felix, Oscar and I worked with half the team to finish the trusses for the storage building. The sun was brutal, but I got the chance to spend the day with my new Haitian friend - Charlie. Charlie and I were a team. I measured and held boards and he hammered them in. We had to have faith in the craftsmanship of the trusses because we were dangling about 15 feet above the ground with nothing to catch our fall. Between the hammering and measuring, Charlie and I spent the day pointing at things and translating them into English and Creole. FYI -the Creole word for level sounds like leevo.

There was no escaping the heat and the sun, but the trusses are finished; next step - installing the tin roof. The Haitians are working side by side with us. They are very hard and dedicated team members. They have made us feel welcome and we have developed valued relationships in the short amount of time we have spent here.
