It was another amazing week in Nicaragua!
Among the many activities of the trip, one of the highlights was my visit to Casa Havilah.
Casa Havilah is a rescue home for girls (mostly ages 7-15) from La Chureca.
This is a 9 bedroom, 7 bath house that was discovered by the Buzbee Family. With the assistance of many, including UBC, they were able to purchase it, July 2007. I was part of a group from UBC last summer that helped paint it, clean it, and furnish it. With the help of our summer team and many other churches and giving individuals, it opened in the fall of 2007.The overall purpose for this home is to open a door for God to show His love to His children by providing a safer place to live both physically and spiritually. Physically, Casa Havilah provdes a home for girls who display great need (commonly, abuse or neglect) to be away from their home in La Chureca. Spiritually, it provides a place where they can learn forgiveness, true self-worth, and what it means to really trust God with their life. And most importantly we hope and pray that they will see Christ's care for them in how He has brought them here and loves them so much. Makes them able to learn about Him and have a relationship with Him. The second purpose of the home is to provide temporary housing and care to malnourished children. They will be specifically preschool aged boys and girls living in La Chureca.
I definitely saw these purposes being fulfilled!

My visit to Casa Havilah was so special, not only because I was there in the summer and helped prepare it for the girls to move in, but also because I know some of the girls currently living at Casa Havilah. Their smiling faces brought me so much joy!
I went to the house with a group of 11 high school girls from Miami. We brought nail polish and found ourselves having a Girls Night In Party. We painted each other's nails, did pedicures and had a fabulous girl's only dance party.
We ended the night by presenting brand new back packs, school supplies, and reading books. It was a wonderful way to celebrate and encourage the girls in beginning their new school year at a new privite Baptist School.
I can't wait to return to Nicaragua this summer!
